The Intermediate Courses aim at a more profound introduction to Buddhism based on the Lamrim teachings by Gelek Rimpoche. According to the Tibetan Gelugpa tradition to which H.H. the Dalai Lama also belongs, the Lamrim traverses the entire spiritual path to enlightenment. The program is intended for those who want to seriously explore their personal interest in Buddhist practice. Participation in one of the introductory courses (or a comparable activity elsewhere) is recommended. The Intermediate Groups meet weekly in sessions with a fixed group of a maximum of 20 participants for a period of three years. First Year 'The Three Principles of the Path of the Buddha', a concise Lamrim. Study material is the root text by Lama je Tsongkhapa and Gelek Rimpoche's commentary (transcript). During the first year, there will be considerable attention for mindfulness meditation. Second and third year The 'Odyssey to Freedom', a contemporary Lamrim. Study material is the root text in 64 steps and Gelek Rimpoche's commentary (transcript). In this course, participants familiarize themselves with the practice of the Ganden Lha Gyema. In the course of the program, there will be an opportunity for those interested to take refuge and to take the bodhisattva vows. These constitute a formal commitment to Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism, respectively. By doing so, the foundation for possible future Vajrayana initiations is laid. These commitments are the basis for deepening one's study and practice in the the Deepening Awareness-study groups. |
