 Hélène van Hoorn was one of Gelek Rimpoche's first Western students. She initially studied with him in India, but when he asked her to return to the Netherlands to look after her mother, she persuaded him to visit Nijmegen and teach some of her friends and people she knew. These first visits and the study groups that followed, marked the start of 'Jewel Heart Netherlands'.Hélène wrote a poem about the connection with her spiritual teacher, Gelek Rimpoche.
